THE COACH

MIKE WHITING (Head Coach)

The squad coach was a state-level runner back in his younger years over 1500m but as the years have gone on, has turned his attention more to helping others. He is a level two (advanced) distance coach and has had success with athletes from every distance up to the marathon. Here is a small snapshot of some of the squad's success.

Coaching achievements

Daryl Crook: three bronze medals at the Australian Open Championships in 3000m steeplechase (2010, 2011, 2015). Two gold medals at the Queensland Cross Country Championships (10km). Won City to South 14km (2017). Third Hobart Half Marathon (2019).

Matt Carlsson: six gold medals at the Queensland Open level - two in the 3000m, two in the 5000m and two in the Short Course Cross Country (4km). Also won Bridge to Brisbane 10km in 2017. 

 

Nick Dewar: silver and bronze medals in the Queensland Open 1500m and 3000m.

Jamie Laverty: bronze in the Queensland Open 3000m.

Kathryn Smyrneos: third at the 2019 Sunshine Coast Marathon (breaking three hours for the first time).
